We are seeking an Occupational Safety and Health Specialist to support The Department of Justice (DOJ), Office for United States Attorneys (EOUSA), Washington, D.C.

So, what will an Occupational Safety and Health Specialist do?

The Executive Office for the United States Attorneys (EOUSA) mission is to provide close liaison between the Department of Justice (DOJ) in Washington DC., for the ninety-four United States Attorneys Districts, located throughout the fifty states, the District of Columbia, Guam and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. As an Occupational Safety and Health Specialist , you will lead and support the development, implementation, and evaluation of safety and occupational health programs across U.S. Attorneys' offices nationwide. This role ensures compliance with federal regulations, promotes best practices, and contributes to a safe and healthy work environment for all personnel.

What does a typical day look like for an Occupational Safety and Health Specialist?

You will:

  • Conduct safety and health surveys and inspections of EOUSA and USAO facilities to determine if the designated areas meet accepted standards for the safeguarding of life and health of employees.
  • Draft results of surveys and inspections to include detailed evaluations and recommendations for review and revision in accordance with the DOJ's component officer's comments.
  • Assist the Department in developing policy standards and addressing the safeguarding of life and health within the Department's facilities.
  • Present Drafted documentation to the EOUSA Safety Officer (Assistant Director, SEMS) for comment and revised in accordance with his guidance. Material developed must be in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety Program standards as promulgated by the Department of Labor Occupational Health and Safety Administration.
  • Participate in inquiries on job-related injuries or accidents or reports of unsafe working conditions and serve as the Office of Record Keeping for all work-related injuries and illness for both EOUSA and the USAOs. Approximately 1,200 phone and 600 email inquiries along with 95 reportable injuries are received and processed per year.
  • Conduct briefings, training classes and presentations on Safety and Health. Coordinate periodic Occupational Safety and Health Conferences at DOJ training facilities.
  • Take part in special projects and studies affecting the overall safety and health of personnel in and on the Department's facilities and property.

What qualifications do you look for?

You might be the professional we're looking for if you have:

  • Authorization to permanently work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Ability to obtain a Tier 4 Public Trust clearance
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or related field plus four (4) years of experience or ten (10) years of experience developing and implementing safety and health programs for a diverse and geographically dispersed workforce.
  • Expertise of OSHA and other United States Government safety regulations, analysis documentation, facility inspections, hazardous condition identification and proper corrective methods.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work effectively in a fast-paced, decentralized environment.
  • Experience developing and delivering training to a wide range of audiences.
