Job Title: Security Guard (Unarmed)
Location: Moccasin Bend Mental Health Institute, Chattanooga, TN
Schedule: Night Shift (6:00 PM 7:30 AM, 3 Days per Week)
The Security Guard (Unarmed) will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and security of staff, patients, visitors, and property at Moccasin Bend Mental Health Institute. Under general supervision, the Security Guard will support admissions, monitor facilities, respond to emergencies, and enforce access control procedures during assigned night shifts. This role requires vigilance, integrity, and excellent communication skills.
Key Responsibilities:Monitor and control access to and from the facility by verifying identification, purpose of visit, and authorization.
Assist in patient admissions by conducting safety checks (metal detector wanding, pat downs) and documenting personal belongings.
Respond promptly to emergency calls and Code Situations, taking appropriate action to support staff and patients.
Patrol the facility grounds and buildings to detect and report safety or security hazards and ensure compliance with facility policies.
Operate security equipment such as CCTV monitors, metal detectors, two-way radios, and patrol vehicles.
Maintain accurate logs and documentation including incident reports, visitor logs, personal property records, and vehicle citations.
Escort patients, staff, or visitors as needed to ensure their safety and well-being.
Communicate with law enforcement or emergency services when required.
Report concerns to supervisors via phone, email, or in-person updates.
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Note: Relevant full-time law enforcement, security, or related experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Valid driver's license may be required depending on assignment.
Must be able to work assigned night shifts and perform physically active duties including walking, standing, and occasional lifting.
Prior experience in institutional security, hospital security, law enforcement, or mental health facility settings.
Familiarity with emergency response procedures and patient de-escalation tactics.
Strong interpersonal and conflict-resolution skills.
